Helix Flow - Product Details

What is the Helix Flow?

The Helix Flow is a non-contact ultrasonic tank level monitor built for vans, RVs, and expedition vehicles. Top-mounted and maintenance-light, it replaces float sensors, sticky probes, and guesswork with precise readings for water and compatible oils—so you always know your true capacity on the road.

Designed for the Helix ecosystem, Flow works locally (cloud-free) and pairs via Bluetooth with the Helix app for live percentages, history, and configurable high/low alerts. Its wide 10 cm–2.9 m detection range, rugged housing, and anti-vibration design make it ideal for real off-grid use and builder installs. Integrates cleanly alongside Helix Pulse and other Helix devices for a single, unified dashboard.

Whether you’re managing a full water system or just want smarter monitoring, Helix Flow puts accurate tank data at your fingertips—reliably, intelligently, and without touching the liquid.

Note: Not intended for gasoline, diesel, or hazardous/pressurized liquids.

What’s the Biggest Benefit of the Helix Flow?

The biggest benefit of the Helix Flow is instant, centralized awareness of your true tank levels—without touching the liquid. Instead of guessing, tapping tanks, or relying on sticky probes, Flow gives you precise, non-contact readings from a single top-mounted sensor, viewable in the Helix app or alongside your Helix dashboard.

Whether you’re checking fresh/gray water or compatible oils, planning fill/empty routines, or preventing run-dry and overflow events, high/low alerts keep you ahead of problems. Flow is optimized to run locally, cloud-free, with a wide 10 cm–2.9 m range and rugged, anti-vibration design—so your readings stay reliable anywhere, even off the grid.

Because it’s part of the Helix ecosystem, Flow scales with your build. Add Helix Pulse for a centralized command center, pair with Helix Signal sensors for leak detection, and monitor everything from one clean interface as your rig evolves.

If you want fewer surprises and smarter water management, Flow is the upgrade you didn’t know you needed—but won’t want to live without.

Note: Not intended for gasoline, diesel, or hazardous/pressurized liquids.

Why Non-Contact Tank Monitoring Wins Off-Grid

Off-grid water planning demands accuracy you can trust. Probes foul, floats stick, and guesswork leads to dry pumps or messy overflows. Helix Flow uses non-contact ultrasonic sensing from the top of the tank—no parts in the liquid—so you get consistent, real-time data wherever you roam.

  • Stay accurate, stay clean: No probes to foul with mineral build-up, biofilm, or debris.
  • Prevent failures: High/low alerts help you avoid running pumps dry or overfilling gray tanks.
  • Plan smarter: See true levels to schedule fills, drains, and stretch every gallon.
  • Install-friendly: Top-mount hole, seal, locknut—no cutting into fluid lines.
  • Built for the road: Local, cloud-free readings that remain reliable in remote areas.
  • One Helix dashboard: View Flow alongside Pulse, Signal, and more for a unified system view.

When tank data is non-contact and reliable, off-grid living gets simpler, safer, and a lot less stressful.

Install, Placement & Downloads

Helix Flow is a smart tank level monitor that mounts in the top of your tank, watching your fresh, grey, black, and auxiliary tanks and sending real-time levels straight to the Helix app on your phone or tablet, no extra gauge panel required. Installation does require drilling a hole in the top of a non-pressurized tank, so choose your location carefully before cutting.

Placement & options

  • Power: 5V DC via the attached USB-C cable from a certified low-voltage supply or 5V adapter.
  • Connection: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to the Helix / Nomadic Controls app; Bluetooth is used during initial pairing.
  • Supported tanks: Fresh, grey, black, and other non-pressurized, vented RV/marine tanks.
  • Mounting location: Highest practical point on the top of the tank, centered and level, with a clear, straight-down view to the liquid (avoid internal ribs, baffles, inlets, and outlets).
  • Environment: Interior/utility bay only; protect from direct road spray, standing water, and extreme heat sources.
  • Approved liquids: Fresh water and standard RV/marine holding tank contents. Do not use in fuel, oil, propane, or flammable/corrosive liquids.
  • Readout: Percentage-based tank levels in the Helix app and, where supported, on your Helix Pulse touchscreen.

What’s included for setup

  • Helix Flow tank level monitor with permanently attached USB-C power cable
  • Lock nut (pre-installed on threads) for mechanical securement

(Installation requires drilling a 2 3/8 in hole in the top of your tank with the tank empty and safe to modify.)

Basic setup sequence

  1. Pick the spot: Choose a centered, level location on the top of a non-pressurized tank where the sensor can look straight down without hitting baffles or fittings.
  2. Drill & clean: Drill a 2 3/8 in hole at the marked spot, then remove and clean up all shavings so nothing remains on or in the tank.
  3. Mount the sensor: Insert Helix Flow through the hole, secure it with the lock nut (or approved sealant method per the guide), and ensure the housing sits flat and upright.
  4. Power & connect: Plug the USB-C cable into a 5V source, open the Helix / Nomadic Controls app, and follow the prompts to pair over Wi-Fi.
  5. Calibrate & confirm: In the app, set tank dimensions/levels, then verify readings with known empty/partial/full conditions.

Pro tips

  • This install involves cutting into your tank—if you’re not comfortable drilling tanks, work with a qualified installer.
  • Mount away from high-turbulence zones (directly over inlets or drains) to keep readings stable.
  • Make sure you have solid 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi coverage where the sensor is installed for reliable updates and alerts.
  • Note your first few trips’ usage patterns (showers, dish cycles) at different percentages so the numbers translate to real-world range.

The Smart Tank Intelligence for Off-Grid Rigs

The NEW Helix Flow

Helix Flow isn’t just a sensor—it’s the truth about your water. From fresh to gray, Flow delivers non-contact ultrasonic readings you can trust, live in the Helix app. Set high/low alerts, plan fills and drains, and stretch every gallon.

Why the Helix Flow?

When you live off-grid, water management isn’t optional—it’s survival. Helix Flow turns your tanks into clear, reliable data with non-contact ultrasonic sensing—no probes to foul, no sticky floats, no guesswork. See true levels in the Helix app, set high/low alerts, and plan fills and drains with confidence.

While other monitors rely on contact sensors and cloud logins, Flow is local, rugged, and accurate—engineered for vans, RVs, expedition rigs, and builders who need readings that hold up to vibration, dust, and distance.

Because it’s part of the Helix ecosystem, Flow drops into a unified dashboard alongside Pulse, Signal, and more—one clean interface for your rig’s essentials.

If you’re building stealth or luxury, Flow makes your water system smarter, simpler, and stress-free.

Flow FAQs

Will Helix Flow work with my current van or RV setup?

Yes. Flow is a top-mounted, non-contact ultrasonic sensor that works with most fresh/gray water tanks and compatible oils. Choose a flat spot on the tank lid with a clear vertical path to the liquid. It’s best on vented tanks and tanks with minimal foaming. (Not for gasoline, diesel, or hazardous/pressurized liquids.)

How accurate is it—and what affects accuracy?

Flow measures the distance to the liquid surface and converts it to a level based on your tank depth calibration in the Helix app. Accuracy is maximized when the sensor has a clear, unobstructed path to the surface. Heavy foam, slosh near baffles/fillers, or a curved/uneven mounting surface can affect readings. Give the tank a few seconds to settle after driving or filling for the most stable result.

Do I need Wi-Fi or internet for Flow to work?

No. Flow is local and cloud-free. Pair via Bluetooth to the Helix app for live levels, history, and high/low alerts—even when you’re fully off-grid.

Can I monitor more than one tank?

Yes. Use one Flow per tank. The Helix app lets you add multiple devices, name each tank (Fresh, Gray, Aux, etc.), and view them together alongside other Helix gear.

What does installation and maintenance look like?

Installation is straightforward: cut the hole, insert Flow from the top, seal and locknut from below, connect power/data, then calibrate tank depth in the app. Because sensing is non-contact, there’s no probe to foul. Wipe the sensor face if dusty and periodically verify your depth setting if you change tanks or plumbing.
