Are you having an issue with a Nomadic Cooling 12V 2000 air conditioning unit? Let's solve it.

Please follow the test below to check your control panel and your control board. If your compressor is working but not cooling to the desired temperature, please contact Nomadic Cooling for further information.

Blog posts/pdf versions for the 3000 12V and 24V versions coming soon.

We will be producing a downloadable pdf shortly, we do apologize for the haste in the troubleshooting guide. We wanted to get something out quickly and a blog post is quick and easy.

TO DETERMINE IF THE ISSUE IS THE CONTROL PANEL OR THE CONTROL BOARD, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

CONTROL PANEL TEST
1.Remove the shroud from the top of the air conditioner to gain access to the air conditioner control board.
2. Check voltage entering the air conditioner control board. Make sure voltage is over 12V (see photo below, voltage reads 11.99)

3. Check Voltage from the Control panel on the control board. (see photo below)

4. Power ON air conditioner unit from the control panel in ECO MODE
(Eco Mode 2V DC) (see photo below, voltage reads 2.145)

5. Change the setting on the control panel to COLD or High Cool and retest (High Cool 5v DC) (see photo below, voltage reads 5.087)

If the corresponding voltages are not found test the control panel 8-pin harness on both sides to make sure the signal is reaching the control board. (see photo below, voltage reads 2.066)

The control panel MUST BE REPLACED if the voltage is not constant or can not be located. Please contact Nomadic Cooling for a replacement control panel at support@nomadiccooling.com

Nomadic Cooling will need photos of the voltage test. Please send with your official request.

CONTROL BOARD TEST

If the control panel output voltage is correct and stable without fluctuations, let's determine if the control board is working correctly.

1. Check the voltage entering the air conditioner control board. Make sure voltage is over 12V (see photo below, voltage reads 11.99)

2. Check Voltage in ECO MODE on the control board from the control panel to make sure 2V DC is visible (see photo below, voltage reads 2.145)

3. Check output connections to the compressor in three locations

Main Negative to Blue compressor wire 4.6V DC
(see photo above, voltage reads 4.623)

Main Negative to yellow compressor wire 4.6v DC
(see photo above, voltage reads 4.622)

Main negative to green compressor wire 4.6V DC
(see photo above, voltage reads 4.622)

If the signal wire from the control panel is consistent at 2V the control panel is working properly. If the control board is not sending a constant ~4.6V DV to all the signal wires going into the compressor the CONTROL BOARD WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.

Please contact Nomadic Cooling for a replacement CONTROL BOARD at support@nomadiccooling.com

Nomadic Cooling will need photos of the voltage test. Please send with your official request.

TESTING FOR R134A REFRIGERANT IN THE SYSTEM

If the compressor is working you can look inside the sight glass to see if bubbles are visible. If no bubbles are visible the unit compressor may not be working or the unit is out of coolant and must be recharged.

NOMADIC COOLING 2000 8-PIN WIRING HARNESS

Make sure all voltages are tested across the 8-pin harness on both sides to verify a solid connection. A bad connection within the harness can be the reason for an a/c fault.
